Bad Homburg. The Association of International Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (VDIK) welcomes the increase announced by the German government and the significant extension of the purchase premium for electric vehicles. VDIK President Reinhard Zirpel explained: “The higher environmental bonus will give electric mobility in Germany a significant boost. This is a clear signal to car buyers that it is worth investing in electric vehicles”.

Now it is important to create planning security as quickly as possible by implementing the resolutions as quickly as possible. Zirpel: “The higher environmental bonus should be implemented as quickly as possible. Not just at the beginning of 2021 as envisaged in the climate protection programme. Otherwise, customers could postpone the purchase of electric vehicles for over a year. Such a reluctance to buy electric vehicles would not help climate protection.”

The automotive industry supports the master plan for charging infrastructure and undertakes, among other things, to make around 15,000 charging points available on company premises and in associated retail outlets by the end of 2022. The international manufacturers have agreed to participate with at least 5,000 charging points. They are already making numerous charging stations available to their employees, customers and, in some cases, to the public.
