Bad Homburg. The commercial vehicle market in Germany continued its positive trend from 2017 into 2018.

With 386,282 units, corresponding to a growth rate of 4.6 percent, the commercial vehicle sector again reached a record level. All weight classes contributed to this result: Sales of light commercial vehicles rose by 5.5 percent, new registrations of heavy vehicles over 16 t (including buses) by 3 percent.

The VDIK members achieved above-average growth of 10 percent, increased their market share to 28 percent (previous year 26.6 percent) and achieved a sales volume of around 108,000 units. With a market share of just under 35 percent, the international manufacturers are particularly successful in the heavy commercial vehicle segment.

VDIK President Reinhard Zirpel: “The good economic conditions in the commercial sector led to the highest volume of new registrations of light commercial vehicles in Germany to date in 2018. In the case of light commercial vehicles, the highest volume of new registrations to date in Germany was achieved last year, while sales of heavy commercial vehicles were almost at the level of the record years of 2007 and 2008.”
