Bad Homburg. The German passenger car market remained on course for success in June. With 341,308 new passenger car registrations, it closed 4.2 percent above the same month last year.<\/p>\n
In the first half of 2018, a total of 1.839 million new passenger cars were registered, representing an increase of 2.9 percent compared to the previous year. The VDIK members increased their market share in the same period from 37.9 to currently 38.3\u00a0percent.<\/p>\n
With 106,600 vehicles, registrations of passenger cars with diesel engines in June were 16.2 percent down compared to the same month last year. With around 591,000\u00a0new registrations, their decline from January to June was 20 percent. Their share of the total market accounts for 32 percent now. With regard to new registrations of VDIK member brands, only one in four cars is equipped with a diesel engine.<\/p>\n
New registrations of private customers in June reached a growth of 9.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, which corresponds to approx. 129,500 units. In the first half of the year 695,700 vehicles were registered privately, a growth of around 12.6 percent. The international motor vehicle manufacturers achieved a share of 45.3 percent there.<\/p>\n

June suggests a modest slowdown in the decline of diesel registrations compared to the first half of the year. This trend is also underlined by the information coming from the used car sector. An attractive range of vehicles with alternative or petrol engines has once again succeeded in compensating for the lack of diesel registrations. “<\/p>\n
