Bad Homburg. On the occasion of the current discussion about a new concept to avoid driving bans, the VDIK makes it clear that nitrogen oxide emissions from road traffic have fallen by 70 percent since 1990. The successful VDIK strategy of renewing the fleet to include state-of-the-art Euro6 vehicles and alternative drive systems has also made a lasting contribution here.<\/p>\n

  1. While the manufacturers represented in the VDIK account for 33.9 percent of the total stock of vehicles and 39.9 percent for battery-operated vehicles, their diesel share is only 26.5 percent.<\/li>\n
  2. The number of Euro5 and lower emission standards passenger cars has fallen by 4.8 million vehicles since 2016. The number of modern Euro6 passenger cars increased by 6.2 million over the same period. This has demonstrably accelerated fleet renewal. The changeover premiums offered by almost all international brands made a substantial contribution to this growth.<\/li>\n
  3. In addition, numerous VDIK member companies and their parent companies carried out software updates on a voluntary basis, thus making a considerable contribution to improving the air quality in cities.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    VDIK President Reinhard Zirpel: “Through their various activities, the international motor vehicle manufacturers have made a significant contribution to avoiding driving bans without any obligation. It goes without saying that the VDIK members will not slacken their efforts, especially after the current judgements, and will continue to play a constructive role in improving air quality.”<\/p>\n
