Bad Homburg. With 200,134 new registrations, the September result is 30.5 percent down on the same month last year. In the first three quarters of the year, 2.67 million new passenger cars were registered in Germany, corresponding to an increase of 2.4 percent.<\/p>\n
At 23 percent, the VDIK member companies recorded a smaller decline than the overall market and achieved a market share of 42.5 percent in September with an increase of 4 percentage points.<\/p>\n
The private market, too, recorded a minus of 34 percent in September with around 67,800 new registrations, but with over 984,000 new registrations in the first nine months, growth of 7 percent is still significantly higher than in the same period last year.<\/p>\n
At minus 58,500 new registrations of diesel passenger cars, new registrations are 44 percent down sharply on September of the previous year. New diesel registrations also declined over the nine-month period as a whole, with 855,000 registrations representing a decline of 19 percent compared with the three quarters of the previous year. Diesel passenger cars now account for 32 percent of the total market.<\/p>\n
VDIK President Reinhard Zirpel: “The weak result in September was to be expected due to the “WLTP effect” from early registrations and still limited availability of WLTP-tested vehicles. We assume that the situation will gradually return to normal and that we will end the year with a plus.<\/p>\n
