Bad Homburg. The passenger car market closed in January 2019 with 265,702 registrations and a minus of 1.4 percent compared to the previous year. Despite the slight decline, this volume represents the second-best January registration result in 20 years.<\/p>\n
The current market result is primarily the result of declining private registrations (minus 7 percent). Here too, however, the current level of 88,000 registrations is still well above the long-term average.<\/p>\n
International manufacturers are increasing their market share to 38.3 percent (prior-year month: 37.2 percent), in the private market they are increasing by 2 percentage points to 47.8 percent (prior-year month: 45.4 percent).<\/p>\n
The diesel market continued to stabilize in January, with over 91,600 registrations, an increase of 2.1 percent. As a result, the share of diesel passenger cars in total registrations rose from 33.3 to 34.5 percent.<\/p>\n
VDIK President Reinhard Zirpel: “The high level of new registrations proves that the market continues to be in good shape. This is supported by the environmental premiums offered by many makes.\u00a0 The stabilisation of diesel registrations indicates, on the one hand, good demand from fleet customers and, on the other hand, figures show that EURO 6d-temp diesel passenger cars are now available throughout the country.”<\/p>\n
