This is 30.4 percent more than in the same month last year. The international vehicle manufacturers&#8217; market share of alternative drive systems was 43.5% in April 2025. The share of new registrations with alternative drive systems in the overall market rose to 57.0% in April, compared to 43.6% in April 2024.<\/p>\n<p>New registrations of <strong>purely battery-electric passenger cars (BEV)<\/strong> once again saw a significant increase of 53.5% to 45,535 units in April. This growth must be seen against the backdrop of a still weak prior-year month following the abrupt end of private e-purchase subsidies at the end of 2023. The BEV share of total new passenger car registrations reached 18.8% in April. International manufacturers were able to increase BEV registrations by 91.4% to 18,420 vehicles. This brings the share of international manufacturers in the BEV market to 40.5 percent.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Affordability is the decisive criterion for electromobility to be a success in the volume market segment. In recent months, international manufacturers have introduced new and affordable electric cars, particularly in the entry-level segment. This makes it possible for middle and lower income groups to get started with electric mobility. The statistics also show that this is the right approach: \u201cThe registration figures of international manufacturers for battery electric vehicles have almost doubled compared to the same month last year,\u201d says VDIK President Imelda Labb\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hybrid vehicles without plugs<\/strong> achieved an increase of 12.2 percent in April. 67,379 new registrations correspond to a 27.8 percent share of passenger car registrations (April 2024: 24.7 percent). The international vehicle manufacturers&#8217; market share of hybrids was 46.1% in April 2025.<\/p>\n<p>New registrations of vehicles with <strong>plug-in hybrid drive (PHEV)<\/strong> also recorded an increase once again in April. 24,317 PHEVs rolled onto the roads, 60.7% more than in the same month last year. The share of all new passenger car registrations rose to 10.0%, which is the second-highest PHEV market share since the end of the purchase subsidy for plug-in hybrids at the end of 2022. The international vehicle manufacturers&#8217; market share of plug-in hybrids thus rose by 3.7 percentage points to 39.6% in April.<\/p>\n<p>Together, <strong>electric vehicles<\/strong> (BEVs, plug-in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles) therefore had a market share of 28.8% in April with 69,858 new registrations. This corresponds to an increase of 55.9 percent compared to April last year.<\/p>\n<p>The VDIK regularly updates the list of electric vehicles of its member companies. The VDIK electric list can be accessed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vdik.de\/en\/topics\/alternative-drivetrains\/electric-mobility\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, 1,008 <strong>LPG passenger cars<\/strong> (-13.1 percent) also rolled onto the roads in April. Since the beginning of the year, new registrations of LPG passenger cars amount to 3,885 units (-29.8 percent).<\/p>\n<p>New registrations of combustion passenger cars reached 104,463 units in April, of which 66,814 were <strong>petrol<\/strong> (-26.4%) and 37,649 <strong>diesel<\/strong> (-18.7%). Petrol cars accounted for 27.5 percent of passenger car registrations, while diesel cars accounted for 15.5 percent.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"table-2\">\n<table style=\"height: 659px;\"
