Bad Homburg. The Association of International Motor Vehicle Manufacturers welcomes the extension of the environmental bonus until the end of 2020. The subsidy would have expired at the end of June.

VDIK President Reinhard Zirpel commented: “The extension until the end of next year creates planning security for potential e-car buyers. However, it should only be a first step. Germany must continue to consolidate and intensify the promotion of electric vehicles. The international manufacturers are in favour of extending the environmental bonus significantly beyond 2020 as the next step. The continuation of the tax relief for electric company cars until 2030, initiated by the Federal Ministry of Finance, points the way here”.

International vehicle manufacturers are the main contributors to the range of electric vehicles on offer. VDIK member companies already offer numerous battery electric e-models, plug-in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles. In addition, there are hybrids without plugs, which are unfortunately exempt from funding. Zirpel emphasized: “The offer is there. Our members have been offering a large number of electric cars since not just yesterday. Of the top ten best-selling electric cars in Germany, five come from international manufacturers, including the best-selling”.
