Bad Homburg. With the intended amendment of the Income Tax Act, the Federal Government is sending out a clear signal in favour of electromobility. For the private use of battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell vehicles as company cars, this amendment halves the gross list price of the vehicle, the basis of assessment. This will ensure a further increase in the number of electric vehicles registered.

In the first seven months of the year, new registrations of battery-powered vehicles in Germany increased by 65 percent and of plug-in hybrids by 35 percent. The intensive development and introduction of models by international motor vehicle manufacturers also made a significant contribution to this.

The VDIK members currently offer 33 model series of electric, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell vehicles in around 100 equipment variants on the German market. The variety of models is constantly increasing and with each new model also the range of the electric vehicle. Battery-powered vehicles with a range of up to 400 kilometers and fuel cell vehicles with a range of over 600 kilometers are already available on the market.

VDIK President Reinhard Zirpel: “The VDIK members have the right model range at the right time. Together with the improvement of the charging infrastructure and company car taxation, an important contribution is made to meeting environmental policy objectives. In addition, an extension and sensible design of the environmental bonus for electric vehicles can have a lasting positive effect on air quality in cities and climate protection in particular”.
