VDIK on the Eurovignette reform: Consider all possibilities for CO2 reduction

Yesterday the EU transport ministers launched a reform of the Eurovignette directive. In the view of the Association of International Motor Vehicle Manufacturers, the planned differentiation of the truck toll according to CO2 emissions is basically a step in the right direction. In order to successfully reduce CO2 emissions, it is necessary to take advantage of all opportunities. In addition to electrically powered trucks, currently available vehicles with hybrid or gas drive also offer considerable potential for fuel savings and thus also for reducing emissions. These vehicles are also suitable for long-distance operation. The use of biofuels such as Bio-LNG also further reduces CO2 emissions significantly. Toll differentiation according to CO2 emissions should also support these possibilities.
