VDIK: Amendment to the German Motor Vehicle Tax Act must not result in additional burden for German drivers

Bad Homburg. The Federal Cabinet today adopted the draft law amending the Motor Vehicle Tax Act, which provides that from 1 September 2018, CO2 values recorded according to the WLPT procedure are to be used to determine the motor vehicle tax. The WLTP measuring cycle can lead to higher measured values for motor vehicles while the actual CO2 emissions remain unchanged.

VDIK President Reinhard Zirpel: “The conversion of the calculation of the motor vehicle tax must not lead to a less favorable position and thus to an increase in the tax burden for vehicle owners. The introduction of appropriate conversion factors should take this into account. The German car drivers already contribute enough to the national budget with their charges and taxes exceeding 50 billion Euros. “
