The Association of International Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (VDIK) was founded in Frankfurt/Main in 1952. Today, almost all German country organizations of international motor vehicle manufacturers with their more than 36 passenger car and commercial vehicle makes belong to the Association. Its mission is to represent the interests of its members vis-à-vis law-makers, government agencies, institutions, organizations and the general public in Germany.

In addition, it supports its members in all relevant matters of fundamental significance for the automobile industry and offers advice on subject-specific topics. The VDIK has always maintained close contacts to political circles in order to accompany non-brand-specific issues in the European auto industry along with their implementation in Germany.

In close cooperation with the Federal Motor Vehicle Department (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt, KBA) and leading research institutes, the Association conducts targeted market research, analyzes the findings according to specific topics and makes the results available to its members.

In addition, the VDIK has developed numerous services, such as statistics, coordination of joint technical projects, and trade show activities. Through these services, the VDIK supports the work of the individual companies in a simple and very cost-efficient manner.
